Longleaze Primary School is set on the northern side of Wootton Bassett near Swindon in Wiltshire. Wootton Bassett is a developing market town with a population of approximately 12,000, set in attractive countryside two miles from junction 16 of the M4.  The school was opened in September 1973 to cover the northern expansion of Wootton Bassett.  It is situated within a housing development, is quiet and well away from any main roads.  The premises consist of the main block, one mobile classroom, used as an audio visual and music room,  two hard playing areas and a secure soft play area, a quiet area, attractive grounds including a conservation area and pond,  and caretaker's bungalow.

There is an on-site Pre-School.

Longleaze School has been extensively improved over the last nine years, to include a two classroom extension, the installation of screens and partitions, an ICT suite, the transformation of a redundant courtyard into a Learning Resource Centre and extensions to enlarge classrooms, offices and staffroom.  The school now consists of 9 nine classrooms, resources area/library, ICT suite, hall, conference room, offices, staffroom, cloackrooms, toilets and kitchen. The school hosts an integrated Specialist Learning Centre for twelve children with statements for more complex needs, which provides inreach and outreach support.

Fulfilling children's potential

Children at Longleaze are offered a wide range of opportunities in order to fulfill their potential.

A broad and balanced curriculum ensures that all abilities and needs are catered for. Support for children with moderate learning difficulties is available in our Specialist Learning Centre whilst more able children are challenged with appropriately differientiated work. We recognise each child as an individual, having different starting points. Our aim is to progress them from where they are in order to achieve their potential.

A wide range of music teaching is available ranging from beginners recorder lessons to ensembles. Outside music teachers offer brass, woodwind, guitar, violin and keyboard tuition. Involvement in major drama productions such as "Bugsy Malone" is encouraged.

The development of physical skills is also valued and clubs including football, netball cricket and tag rugby flourish. Competitive fixtures are arranged.

School Achievement Award

This recent award reflects the sustained improvement in the school's SATs performance over the last three years. It is an award of which the school can feel justly proud.
